Elephantasy
For the second time I photographed the awesome painted elephants of Jaipur in the western state of Rajasthan, India. These magnificent beasts possess incredible power yet they are a patient species. Perhaps we humans have much to learn. I could have been crushed in an instant at the whim of this marvelous animal. He tolerated me. I stood just inches in front of him in amazement and his grace overpowered me.
Elephants continuously move . . . they swing their tails, their ears, their trunks. Yet, this one stood still just for a moment. Why?
Perhaps he wanted to relish in the pleasure of my pleasure.
It took some time to set focus, exposure, my Stroborati Speedlites and to frame perfectly. The big guy seemed to understand my travails and kindly held his ears still. Finally, I clicked the shutter and accomplished just one frame before he moved. Then he went about his business.
